Fashion Brands that Focus on Sustainability

Posted by Paula Parisotto on

If you are anything like me, you’re a consumer who knows that making impactful change starts with where you spend your money! Taking simple steps towards mindful buying of consumer goods is great for our planet which, in turn, is great for the people, plants and animals that live on it.

Sustainable Fashion, Fast Fashion and Slow Fashion are all terms that many consumers are, in the least, familiar with. To further your knowledge, click each term to read my more in-depth posts, otherwise, read on for the condensed version of each term.

Sustainable Fashion

Defined as clothing, shoes and accessories that are manufactured, marketed and utilized by the consumer in the most sustainable manner possible, taking into consideration both environmental and socio-economic aspects. Purchasing from theses responsibility-minded brands is the quickest way to ensure our natural resources’ slowing of overconsumption.

Fast Fashion

The design, manufacturing, and marketing of rapidly produced clothing. The replication of trendy styles, made with low-quality materials designed to bring inexpensive new styles to the public.

Slow Fashion

A commitment to buying better quality, longer-lasting garments from brands whose practices focus on manufacturing with the fair treatment of people, animals, and the planet in mind.

With more and more consumers wanting to learn about and buy slow and sustainable, many fashion brands are responding by working hard to make positive environmental and socio-economic impacts. Here are just a few of my favs:

Tradlands

Women's wear brand with a focus on perfecting essentials, inspired by thoughtful tailoring, expert details, and quality fabrics.

American Giant

US manufactured men's and women's clothing that’s durable, not disposable. High quality, built to last, straightforward styles that endures beyond trends.

Known Supply

Outfitting you with the quality staples you’ll love and want in your closet for years to come. Each piece is hand-signed by the sewer.

Mate the Label

Women's and children's brand that takes a holistic approach to sustainability considering the full life-cycle of our clothing. They use non-toxic, natural and certified Organic materials that are easy on your skin and the environment.

There are many, many, many more. (Like mine.) Simply search sustainable, slow fashion, eco-friendly or ethical fashion brands and find some favs of your own. Then share them below. Together, we can do more to make positive changes.
